Mini 5 Gallon Buckets

For my next print on the Creality K2 Plus, I decided to create a set of mini 5-gallon buckets, inspired by the classic ones you see at Home Depot, Lowe’s, and Harbor Freight using Creality Hyper PLA. I found the model files on Creality Cloud, and right away I knew they’d make a fun and colorful project. Each bucket was printed in the signature brand colors—bright orange for Home Depot, blue for Lowe’s, and red for Harbor Freight. Seeing those familiar colors come to life in miniature form was incredibly satisfying and added a playful, collectible feel to the prints.

However, once I assembled them, I realized I didn’t really like the handle design included in the original model file. It felt a bit flimsy and didn’t match the clean, sturdy look I wanted. So, I decided to design my own custom handle—a small but rewarding design challenge. Using some basic 3D modeling tools, I created a better-fitting handle that looked more realistic. To make it even more authentic, I bent pieces of metal coat hanger into shape and used them as the actual bucket handles. The mix of 3D-printed parts and real metal gave the buckets a surprisingly realistic touch.

I tried to design a lid, but I can’t get it just right yet.

This project reminded me of what I love most about 3D printing—the ability to customize and improve designs to make them truly your own. What started as a simple set of mini buckets turned into a creative experiment that combined printing, painting, and a little hands-on fabrication. Each bucket now has its own personality, and together they make a great addition to my growing collection of prints. It’s amazing how a small project like this can spark so many new ideas for future designs.
